The Egyptian government increased the price of fuel oil (BBM) by 30 percent starting Tuesday (10/3) local time. The reason for this increase in fuel prices is the “extraordinary” global energy pressure due to the war in the Middle East, which has disrupted oil supplies and shipping routes.
This price increase, as stated AFPTuesday (10/3/2026), announced by the Egyptian Ministry of Oil and applies to gasoline, solar energy and natural gas used in vehicles.
In a statement, Egypt’s Oil Ministry explained that the adjustments were driven by “disruptions in supply chains, increased risk levels and higher shipping and maritime insurance costs.”
He said the conflict situation had pushed prices of petroleum products to “levels not seen in recent years”.

Oil prices soared above $119 per barrel on Monday (9/3) local time, before falling to around $84, after US President Donald Trump said the US-Israeli war against Iran would end soon.
Based on the Cairo government’s policy, the price of diesel, one of the most widely used fuels in Egypt, increased by 3 Egyptian pounds (Rp. 958), or about 17.1 percent. While previously it was 17.50 Egyptian pounds (Rp. 5,589) per liter, the price of diesel has now increased to 20.50 Egyptian pounds (Rp. 6,547) per liter.
The price of 80 octane gasoline increased by about 16.9 percent to 20.75 Egyptian pounds (Rp 6,627) per liter. Meanwhile, the price of 92 octane gasoline increased by around 15.6 percent to 22.25 Egyptian pounds (Rp 7,106) per liter.

The price of 95 octane gasoline increased by about 14.3 percent to 24 Egyptian pounds (Rp 7,665) per liter.

Natural gas used for vehicles saw the biggest increase, jumping 30 percent to 13 Egyptian pounds (Rp. 4,151) per cubic meter.
Egypt has raised fuel prices four times in the past two years as part of an $8 billion loan program from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The 13 percent increase recorded in October last year is expected to be the last under the program.
