ParagonCorp Wardah, in collaboration with Komodo Water, presents Clean Water Initiative titled “Steps to Flow Hope”, an effort to provide sustainable access to clean water to communities in 2 villages in East Nusa Tenggara, namely Poco Dedeng Village, Lempe Village and Wae Tulu Village in West Manggarai Regency. The inauguration, which took place on November 28, 2025, is a form of joint commitment to meet the community’s basic need for drinking water, which has been the main and urgent challenge in the region.

According to an assessment by Komodo Water, an organization that works to provide and manage sustainable access to clean water through appropriate technological solutions, residents of Lempe and Wae Tulu have to travel 4 to 6 hours a day over dangerous terrain, steep slopes and descents, rocky and slippery paths and to the edge of ravines to obtain clean water. This condition takes a toll on women and children, increases the risk of stunting and also disrupts learning activities, as children have to take turns going to water sources and bringing water to school, so study times are often delayed. These results show how urgent it is to provide local communities with closer, safer and more adequate access to drinking water.

Noting the urgency of access to clean water in West Manggarai Regency, ParagonCorp Wardah and Komodo Water constructed a water supply system in the form of storage tanks, water pump installations powered by solar energy and a network of pipelines using gravity. This technology is implemented to ensure an energy saving system, making it more respectful of nature and easier for the community to manage. By placing multiple water points in residential areas, as well as public amenities such as prayer rooms, churches, health facilities and schools, this infrastructure is expected to support economic potential and open up space for women in both villages to directly participate in the management of water charges and maintenance of the infrastructure that has been built.

This new infrastructure is expected to have a positive impact on more than 180 household heads (790 people) in Lempe village and more than 120 household heads (465 people) in Wae Tulu village. In addition to meeting basic needs, now greater access to water also has the potential to improve the well-being of communities through economic activity. In Lempe, for example, candlenuts, the main source of income with a production of up to 100 tonnes per year, can be processed more easily, increasing their quality and sales value. The same also applies to Wae Tulu, where improved water availability can support increased cashew production.

Cross-sector collaboration for sustainable solutions

The inauguration of the ParagonCorp Wardah Clean Water Initiative, held in Lempe, was attended by Retno Marsudi, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Water; Dr. Sari Chairunnisa, Sp.KK, FINSDV, Deputy CEO of ParagonCorp, Aloisius Lahi, Representative of the West Manggarai Regency Regional Government; Shana Fatina, Founder and CEO of Komodo Water, YW Junardy, Chairman of Indonesia Global Compact Network (IGCN), village head and community representatives from Lempe and Wae Tulu.
