Responding to this, the Minister of the Environment, Hanif Faitol Nurofiq, underlined her commitment to maintain environmental law for mining activities in small Raja Ampat islands.

“The PT ASP has proven to carry out mining activities without adequate environmental management, causing pollution of sea water and high turbidity on the coast,” said Hanif at a press conference held in Jakarta on Sunday (6/8/2025).

Hanif said that PT ASP’s environmental documents were still issued by Raja Ampat Regent and that so far had not been received by Klhk. “We will ask that the document be examined because there is serious pollution proven. In fact, the environmental management system is not yet available,” he said.

Similar conditions have also been found on the Mine PT KSM website on KW Island and PT MRP on Mayor Island. PT KSM would be open from land outside the borrowing permit granted, while PT MRP has only one IUP and does not yet have an environmental document. The activity in these two locations was arrested by the KLHK supervision team.
