Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf or Gus Ipul said that the process of distributing regular social assistance (bansos) in the first quarter of 2026 continues. Until the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, it was recorded that the realization of regular distribution of social assistance had reached 90 percent nationally.
“Thank God, the distribution process of regular social assistance continues and now stands at more than 90 percent nationally, for the Family Hope Program (PKH) and for Non-Cash Food Assistance (BPNT) or Basic Food Assistance,” Gus Ipul said in a written statement, Thursday (26/2/2026).
Meanwhile, to support the recovery process and economic recovery in disaster-affected areas such as Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra provinces, the Ministry of Social Affairs distributed PKH social assistance and basic necessities to 1.7 million beneficiary families (KPM) worth Rp. 1.8 trillion.
“Regular social assistance for the three provinces is provided to 1,763,038 beneficiary families, the budget value is IDR 1.8 trillion,” he said.

In addition to regular social assistance, the Ministry of Social Affairs also distributes adaptive social assistance or disaster social assistance in the three provinces. This includes logistical assistance and a public kitchen, compensation for death and injuries, life insurance (Jadup) and economic recovery assistance for communities affected by disasters.
In detail, the compensation for the deceased victims, which was distributed to 990 heirs, is estimated at more than IDR 14 billion. “And this continues, every time there is a letter, after finding the heir, we immediately distribute it to the three provinces of Aceh, West Sumatra and North Sumatra,” he added.
Then, during Sumatra’s post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction period, the Ministry of Social Affairs distributed life insurance assistance to 175,211 beneficiaries, worth IDR 450,000 per person for 3 months.
“The value is more than IDR 238 billion. The distribution process has already started, because of course the beneficiaries have been verified. From the proposal of the regional government and signed by the Minister of Interior as chairman of the Task Force for Acceleration of Reconstruction and Rehabilitation. Then we will start distributing it in stages through PT POS and also BSI,” explained Gus Ipul.

In addition, housing assistance was distributed to more than 47 thousand KPM, worth more than IDR 143 billion. Each family receives household assistance of IDR 3 million.

“Then there is compensation for housing. Both those who live in shelters or permanent housing as well as of course those who are tenants or who participate in the program to receive financial assistance while waiting for housing,” he explained.
Finally, as part of socio-economic recovery, the Ministry of Social Affairs distributes aid to more than 47,000 KPM, worth more than IDR 238 billion. Each family receives socio-economic housing stimulation assistance amounting to IDR 5 million.
“In total, the adaptive social assistance we distributed during this first stage amounts to IDR 632.8 billion. So this is the first step of adaptive social assistance in (these) three provinces,” concluded Gus Ipul.

The Ministry of the Environment (KLH) has filed a lawsuit over environmental damage and pollution following the Sumatra disaster. Three companies were sued at the Central Jakarta District Court and the South Jakarta District Court. .
Seen detikcom On the Case Tracking Information System (SIPP) page of the Central Jakarta District Court, Thursday (22/1/2026), the trial was registered under file number 40/Pdt.Sus-LH/2026/PN Jkt.Pst. The defendant in this case is PT Multi Sibolga Timber.
“Case Classification: Cases that cause environmental damage and pollution,” is written on the SIPP page of the Central Jakarta District Court.

The lawsuit was filed on Tuesday (20/1). The Ministry of Environment asked PT Multi Sibolga Timber to pay compensation of IDR 190 billion.
The first hearing of this case was held on Tuesday (3/2). This case was judged by the president of the jury, Saptono, with members Ida Satriani and Dwi Elyarahma Sulistyowati.

1. Grant the plaintiff’s request in its entirety.
2. Declare that the defendant is absolutely responsible (strict liability).
3. Declare the validity and value of the security deposit posted on all property belonging to the defendant.

Prosecution before the South Jakarta District Court
The Ministry of Environment also filed a lawsuit at the South Jakarta District Court. The first lawsuit is registered under number 60/Pdt.Sus-LH/2026/PN JKT.SEL, the defendant being PT North Sumatra Hydro Energy.
“Dispute value Rp. 22,544,302,500. Petitum: cannot be displayed yet,” says the SIPP page of the South Jakarta District Court.

The second trial is registered under file number 62/Pdt.Sus-LH/2026/PN JKT.SEL. The defendant in this application is PT Agincourt Resources.
The first trial of the two trials was held on Tuesday (3/2). The Ministry of Environment demands compensation from PT Agincourt Resources in the amount of IDR 200 billion for environmental destruction.

Implementation of recovery by the defendant and, in parallel, providing progress reports on the implementation of recovery to the plaintiff every 6 months.
6. Order the defendant to pay a fine of 6% per year of the total value of the compensation for each day of late payment until the entire amount is paid in full, with the decision having permanent force of law (inkracht van gewijsde).
7. Order the defendant to pay a late fine of 6% per year of the total value of the compensation for each day of delay in the execution of the recovery, the decision having permanent legal force (inkracht van gewijsde).

For information, PT Multi Sibolga Timber, PT Agincourt Resources and PT North Sumatra Hydro Energy are in the list of 28 companies found guilty of forest use violations after a disaster in North Sumatra. President Prabowo Subianto revoked the permits of the three companies.

Minister of Interior (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian presented a number of strategies to accelerate post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in the Sumatra region. He said the government had mapped the recovery conditions in 52 affected districts/cities in three provinces, namely Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra.
This mapping divides the areas into three categories, namely normal, semi-normal and not yet normal areas. This process involves the participation of relevant regional governments so that the data collected is consistent with field conditions.
“So we can apply the strategy to where we want to go [bergerak melakukan penanganan]”, said Tito, in a written statement, Saturday (10/1/2026).
He conveyed this during the coordination meeting of the DPR RI Post-Disaster Recovery Working Group with the Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Acceleration Reconstruction Working Group, held in Banda Aceh, Aceh.

It is known that Tito was appointed by President Prabowo Subianto as chairman of the Task Force for Accelerating Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Aceh, North Sumatra (North Sumatra) and West Sumatra (Sumbar). From the start of his mission, Tito immediately held a meeting to map and verify the current post-disaster conditions in 52 districts/cities with relevant parties.
Based on the results of the meeting and the field inspection, Tito outlined a number of priority steps. First, speed up the cleaning of sludge in residential areas and waterways. According to him, the deployment of additional personnel from the TNI and Polri is essential to speed up the cleaning process before entering the month of Ramadan.
Besides the TNI and Polri, Tito also encouraged the involvement of official schools by assigning students, as did the Institute for Internal Government (IPDN) of the Ministry of the Interior. Deployment of personnel can be tailored to the needs of affected areas.
“If it can be done by gangs, additional police, TNI, then official schools, everyone will move, the mobilization will take place, I am sure that the areas where there is a lot of mud will soon be clean, including up to the houses,” he stressed.
Secondly, Tito also stressed the importance of reactivating the regional government through the acceleration of the distribution of the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD). He explained that the Ministry of the Interior had issued a circular allowing regions to quickly make changes to the APBD.
Tito also gave an example of distributing remittance funds to Aceh Tamiang which was carried out without waiting for all administrative formalities.
“A speed mechanism like this is absolutely necessary in these affected areas. [daerah terdampak] have capital,” he explained.
Third, strengthen social and economic support to affected communities. Tito encouraged the optimization of social assistance, such as the Family Hope Program (PKH), BPJS Health Contribution Assistance Recipients (PBI), as well as other assistance to maintain people’s purchasing power. According to him, this step is important to revive the economy, including for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

“If we give them what we call, help [seperti] BLT (Direct Cash Assistance), this automatically means they have purchasing power. “It will be a money round,” he said.

Furthermore, Tito stressed the importance of accelerating the improvement of access to land, reducing the number of refugees in tents by providing temporary shelters (huntara), as well as validating data on damage to houses so that aid can be distributed immediately. He also stressed the need for weather modification operations to anticipate rains that could potentially hamper the recovery process, especially in upstream areas such as Gayo Lues.
On the other hand, Tito expressed his intention to hold a follow-up technical meeting with regional heads in Aceh region to collect data for the task force to immediately respond to. It will also directly inspect a number of affected areas in Aceh, such as Aceh Tamiang, Bener Meriah and Gayo Lues, as well as affected areas in North and West Sumatra.

The Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) provides the latest report on the health status of residents affected by floods and landslides in Aceh, West Sumatra and North Sumatra.
Data as of December 3, 2025 shows the three most common health conditions. The following data is compiled from the Ministry of Health website:
Priority healthcare is provided from emergency services which include health checks, administration of basic medications and treatment of wounds.
Apart from this, disease control is also carried out such as fogging, disinfection of flooded areas and wearing masks.

The head of the Health Crisis Center, Agus Jamaludin, said the high number of fever cases indicated that environmental and living conditions had not fully recovered after the disaster.
“Fever is the fastest growing problem after floods, especially when evacuation sites are crowded and access to clean water is limited. This is also due to inadequate body protection during evacuation,” he explained.
In addition to the reported illnesses, post-flood conditions can potentially cause an increase in dengue and leptospirosis cases, as stagnant waters left by floods can become a breeding ground for dengue-causing mosquitoes.

Flooding also causes water contamination and the distribution of rat or other animal urine into evacuation areas, which can increase the risk of leptospirosis.
