At Hollywood Reporter, James Gunn revealed the past to form a supergirl in a figure that was very different from his cousin.

“We will see the difference between Superman, which has been sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from infants, against Supergirl, who grew up on stones, fragments of Krypton, and who witnessed everyone around him is dead and killed in a terrible way during the first 14 years of his life, then came to Earth,” said James Gunn.

He continued: “It is much more difficult and not the supergirl that we usually see.”

In another interview with ComicBook, James Gunn again highlighted the differences between Superman and Supergirl which compare to 180 degrees.
